Tannas Conservation Services Ltd. (TCS) has a unique opportunity available and is seeking a Junior Environmental Scientist with a strong understanding of reclamation practices in western Canada. The ideal candidate will be able to support reclamation field programs including travel throughout central and southern Alberta. The position is suited to a motivated, detail-oriented professional who can work independently, has strong data collection skills and is interested in a position that is a hybrid between office and field work. We have a growing Oil and Gas Reclamation team that supports a diverse range of practice, and this position will have access to mentorship, support for continued professional development, and opportunities to grow as a technical professional.
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Support reclamation field programs primarily in Alberta
- Conduct vegetation management work
- Make recommendations for future reclamation or vegetation mgmt. activities
- Perform sampling and collection of field data in an accurate manner
- Oversee site safety components and supervise subcontractors
- Communicate and build collaborative relationships with team members, stakeholders, clients, and subcontractors
- Participate in all aspects of the TCS safety program
Requirements and Skills:
- Post-secondary education (Dipl., BSc.) in a relevant discipline
- 1-2 years of relevant work experience would be an asset
- Knowledge of detailed site assessment (DSA) practices, understanding of soil science and current reclamation criteria in Alberta
- Eligible and working towards a professional designation in AB (i.e. P.Ag.)
- Valid class 5 driver’s license
- Comfortable and competent working independently and self-driven
- Strong leadership, teamwork, communication, and organizational skills
- Passion for challenges, learning, and open to diverse types of work
- Eligible to work in Canada
