Summer Student (Native Plant Nursery)

Eastern Slopes Rangeland Seeds Ltd. (ESRS) has a unique opportunity available and is seeking a summer student to work at our native plant nursery located just south of Cremona AB. The ideal candidate will be responsible for seeding, weeding, propagation of native plant materials. The job is full time from the beginning of May to the end of August. You will get the chance to work with numerous native plant species being propagated for reclamation and conservation efforts including rare and endangered species. You will also have the potential to work with multiple research experiments related to reclamation.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Watering plants
  • Seeding and live plant propagation
  • Packaging plant materials
  • Weeding

Requirements and Skills:

  • Valid class 5 driver’s license
  • Comfortable and competent working independently and self-driven
  • Strong leadership, teamwork, communication, and organizational skills
  • Passion for challenges, learning, and open to diverse types of work
  • Eligible to work in Canada

Eastern Slopes Rangeland Seeds (ESRS) is a unique, native plant nursery with a half acre of indoor production along with additional outdoor growing areas. The nursery produces up to 100 species of native plants a year. ESRS is the sister company to Tannas Conservation Services Ltd. Staff have the potential to support on research programs and consulting projects of TCS from time to time. We are seeking an enthusiastic summer student interested in learning about native plants. This is a great opportunity to build your skills in plant propagatin, management and understanding how plants grow.

The following skills/experience are considered an asset: plant identification, pest management, gardening, farm work experience.

Start date:          May 2026
Location:             Cremona (must be within a reasonable commuting distance for the summer)
Duration:             Full-time or Summer Position
Office:                  100% of the time focused on the nursery at Cremona
Travel:                  Opportunity to work with the consulting firm from time to time
Salary:                  Negotiable depending on skill and experience
