Tannas Conservation Services Ltd. (TCS) is seeking a highly organized, enthusiastic Intermediate Ecologist with 5-10 years of experience and a strong understanding of Biophysical (regulatory, wetlands, wildlife, ecology) and Mining in Alberta and British Columbia (B.C.). This role involves field work, data analysis, and the ability to manage projects and mentor more junior staff. Our biophysical program spans diverse ecosystems and is primarily focused on specialized work in wetlands, vegetation assessment and ecology. Experience working with and applying the Water Act and associated Codes of Practice, and the Alberta Wetland Policy is required.
The successful applicant will be able to support regulatory applications along with complex work in ecology and specifically wetlands. Understanding of environmental regulations and processes is important to the success of the position. The position is suited to a motivated, detail-oriented professional who can work independently, has strong technical writing and is professionally registered. Roles and Responsibilities:
- Support and lead field programs primarily in Alberta and BC
- Assist with proposal writing
- Complete environmental permitting applications
- Technical report writing, and review of data and field reports
- Conduct kick-off meetings and regular status check ins with various clients
- Track project progress and costs
- Communicate and build collaborative relationships with team members, clients, and subcontractors
- Participate in all aspects of the TCS safety program
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience
- Post-secondary degree (B.Sc., M.Sc.) in a relevant discipline
- Preference for a Registered Professional Agrologist or Professional Biologist in good standing
- Competent knowledge of the Water Act and Alberta Wetland Policy
- Ability to triage tasks and make decisions in a fast-paced environment
- Familiar with budget tracking and manage various priorities depending on changing requirements
- Valid class 5 driver’s license
- Comfortable and competent working independently and self-driven
- Strong technical writing skills and data management
- Eligible to work in Canada
